Malaysia contour map for mountain.

Hi,

I am newbie in this field. So, where can i get a software or free online printing for Malaysia mountains contour maps?

Will go for mountain hiking next weekend. Gunung Kutu, anybody went there before? Can tell me more about this mountain? Need to gather more surrounding info and trail analysis.

if u are a Garmin GPS user, u could download topo dari a website

as far as i know, there is no such a website u mentioned, restricted topo is protected under ISA so cant publish to public. 100m contour topo could be bought from JUPEM. this is a non-restricted info.

i think u wll meet with some trekkers from Pertak this weekend

the unrestricted topo map from jupem will cost rm10. very nice will all the colours...etc...

as for digital topo map (garmin firmware), refer to www.malsingmaps.com
i'm certain there are no trail map for biking at kutu. but there lots of other mtb trails around... if you browse the website

hi..

two main GPS brand were Garmin n Magellan
I prefer Magellan in comparison between both brand couse of better signal in our rainforest canopy..
but I havent try d latest Garmin with quard helix antenna model yet..dont know d signal receiving performance to compare with Magellan model..

the map can be viewed on the mapping unit of the garmin.

mind you, it's not coloured like the map... but, i've done the comparison with the jupem map (the ordinary one ler...) the grid is accurate, meaning those guys at malsingmaps did a great job at converting the data. kudos to them.

v can set a time and place to meet up for gps. somewhere in the open. and not too far from home.

depends on your requirement and budget. i recommend both magellan and garmin.

for me, i chose garmin 60csx for:
1. i got a great deal. member jual murah (rm1k less than market price masa tu), and it's brand new!
2. it's a routing unit. aku ni, jln kat kl pun tak pandai. example, aritu kena g palace of golden horses... aku route kan kat 60csx... and ikut je direction kat 60csx (bila nak turn etc...). syiok!
3. great support. example: malsingmaps, firmware upgrade
4. memory 60csx upgradedable
5. mapping unit, colour screen.

having said all that, i'd still recommend magellan... tgk budget and your requirement lar.

old model (obsolete already)...
cs goh help me to buy it from ebay...

satisfied with my magellan...
black n white....
easy to use...
quad helix antenna...

since i only wanted to know the coordinat, this gps is enough for me...
no need the color one, no need the donwloadable one....

got topo (umum/awam) from jupem, but, not so navigatable la... cost rm10. scale...

like i said not so navigatable.... but nice to see lor...

should be under "rawang"...kut? don worry, the jupem chap friendly fella...

digital topo map tu boleh view kat pc. tp, kena ada mapsource software (ni kalau ada garmin unit, mmg dapat cd s/ware sekali). baru try. banyak lagi kena belaja... trial and error.

1. install mapsource
2. d/load M3 (malsingmaps)
3. d/load map (malsingmaps)
4. get mapset, view dlm program mapsource.
5. zoom to 0.2mile or less.... (baru "topo" keluar!!!)

*topo ada area lebih detail, dan ada area kurang... depends on conversion dr original source, kut...

still learning...

ada mapsource and m3 mmg cukup...
blh d/load maps (topo n routable)
and routing on pc.

nak convert data and buat peta topo sendiri pun blh...
tp, pc kena power... but, internet sakit/slow ni... takpayah la...
lgpun accuracy 90%
and peta tak cukup detail... (sungai takde)
tp, kalau nak buat juga blh try...
i tried... pc hang terus... data nak d/load tuk area/tile gerah je dah besar sgt....
